Year 1's Land Ahoy Day!!

In year one the children came to school dressed up as pirates, sailors, fishermen and we even had our very own mermaid.

We had the most fabulous time taking part in a treasure hunt!

Looking at boats through history and how they were powered.

We also enjoyed making pirate hats!

The start of our treasure hunt!

Keeley and Libby working together to solve the clues.

Hooray!!!  We found the treasure

Now it's time to make our pirate hats.

We all had a great day.

Land Ahoy!

Our new topic in year one is based around boats and the sea.
We will be learning about simple mechanisms such as pulleys, levers and joints.
Looking at different forces (push, pull, floating and sinking).
Finding out about the properties of different materials and how to conduct a fair test.
We are also going to be learning about water transport through the ages and across the world.
We will be writing and re-telling narrative stories.
Year one will have the opportunity to dress up as a Pirate, Sailor, Lifeboat Man, Fisherman or anything nautical for our "Land Ahoy" day.

Morning of Music

Friday 15th March

On Friday our class visited Gosford Park Primary School to take part in the Morning of Music.

There were children from four different schools from all over Coventry joining together to sing songs about "Time". Some children were able to play instruments and each school had there very own party piece to perform infront of the other schools. Our party piece was the song Happy Days!!

We all had great fun and even made some new friends.

Supermarkets

As part of our topic on "Supermarkets" Zorro's Daddy came into school to talk to us about his newly opened shop.

We had prepared lots of questions to ask him during the time he was with us.

Take a look at some of the photographs we took of our afternoon with Zorro's Daddy.

Year 1's trip to their local supermarket.

Today we went to have a look around our local supermarket.
The supermarket was called Costcutters and was only a short walk away.
When we arrived we were able to ask lots of questions about the types of food they sold.
Did they sell newspapers and magazines?
We also asked about the size of the store.
How the food was delivered to the supermarket and where did
they store the food before they placed it on the shelves.

Have a look at some of the photos we took of our local shop.

We even had a look around the store room!

World Book Day

The children dressed up as many different characters from their favourite story books and so did many of the adults!

We had a Batman or two, Jess from Toy Story, a beautiful Rapunzel, A ragdoll and even a pumpkin from Pumpkin Soup.

I enjoyed dressing up and pretended to be broken like a ragdoll.                Keeley Smith

Library Visit

Year one visited their local library to celebrate World Book Day.

Some of the children were able to borrow books using their own library cards.
